TODAY'S TOPIC:  Fast File Uploads: Easy as F-T-P

While computer-to-plate workflows have made the printing process much faster and easier for everyone involved, sending digital files via email can be a slow process. High-resolution images and page after page of graphics and text can make for some unwieldy file sizes! At Sentinel Printing, our FTP site makes the file transfer process a breeze. Here are some handy instructions for both Mac and PC users:

Before Transferring
Your files must be properly prepared before transferring them to Sentinel via our FTP site. The files must be compressed native files (such as Quark, Pagemaker, etc.), compressed PostScript files, or PDF files.

Uploading Files Using Internet Explorer for PC
To transfer files from a PC, open Internet Explorer and type ftp.sentinelprinting.com in the address line. When prompted, enter the ftp user name: sentinelftp, and password: sentinel (all lower case). There is no “anonymous” login. Once you are logged in, you can 'drag and drop' or copy the files into the upload folder on your screen. After your files have transferred, you can look for them inside the upload folder to make sure they arrived.

Uploading Files Using Fetch for Mac
1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet. After a connection has been established launch the application Fetch (free trial available at www.fetch.net).
2. When Fetch opens you should see a window called New Connection
3. Enter the following:
Host: ftp.sentinelprinting.com
User ID: sentinelftp
Password: sentinel
Directory: Leave blank. Click OK
4. You should now see the main Fetch window with ftp.sentinelprinting.com
5. To upload files, you can either drag files directly onto the Fetch window till a highlighted border shows up and then release the mouse button or click Get File and navigate to where you have your file and click Open. Fetch will immediately begin uploading the files.

Concerned with Security?
If you have a security issue, contact us and we will establish a private folder with your own log in and password that can only be accessed by you and Sentinel. This will take a few days to process. Another option is to notify us immediately upon uploading and we can quickly download and delete your file from the server.
